Screens

# Screen Content
1 Main screen time, date, current temperature (colored), weather icon, wind speed and direction
4 3 h forecast time, icon and temperature for the next 3 hours
2 Humidity / pressure humidity, air pressure, feels-like temperature
3 UV / sun UV index (daily maximum), sunrise, sunset
5 Pollen birch, grasses, alder, mugwort, ragweed with level (none / low / moderate / high / very high)
6 Air quality ozone, PM10, PM2.5 and European air quality index (EU AQI), colored by limit values
– Rain warning red, flashing full-screen
– Pollen warning orange, flashing full-screen with the affected allergen

The numbers are the names used in the web interface. The order on the device is 1 → 4 → 2 → 3 → 5 → 6 → 1. All screens except the main screen can be switched off individually in the web interface (see Settings).

Operating with the button

The cube has a single touch button (TTP223):

Situation Effect of a button press
display is dimmed or off in night mode display lights up (for 15 seconds in night mode), no screen change
rain or pollen warning active the warning is acknowledged, the cube jumps to the main screen
otherwise switches to the next active screen (skips disabled ones)

There are at least 0.5 seconds between two presses.

Colors

  • Temperature: red from 24 °C, yellow from 15 °C, green from 8 °C, blue below.
  • Pollen: none (gray), low ≤10 (green), moderate ≤30 (yellow), high ≤100 (orange), very high >100 (red). Values are pollen grains per m³.
  • Air quality: four colors based on the limit values of the EEA's European Air Quality Index (2024 revision). "Good" and "Fair" are merged into green. The raw value is shown (µg/m³, for the AQI the index itself).
Value Green Yellow Orange Red
Ozone (O₃) ≤ 100 ≤ 120 ≤ 160 > 160
Particulates PM10 ≤ 45 ≤ 120 ≤ 195 > 195
Particulates PM2.5 ≤ 15 ≤ 50 ≤ 90 > 90
EU AQI ≤ 40 ≤ 60 ≤ 80 > 80

Warnings

Rain warning: at every weather update the next 2 hours are checked. If drizzle, rain, showers or thunderstorms are coming (WMO codes 51–67, 80–82, 95 and up), the cube jumps to a red, flashing screen. A button press acknowledges it. After that there is no new warning for this rain period; only when the next 2 hours are dry again is it re-armed for the next rain.

Pollen warning: triggers when one of the five allergens exceeds the configured threshold (moderate >10, high >30, very high >100). The orange, flashing screen names the allergen and level, e.g. "Birke: Hoch". A button press acknowledges it. When all values drop below the threshold again, the warning is re-armed for next time.

Both warnings can be switched off in the web interface.

Weather icons

The icons (Meteocons by Bas Milius, MIT) distinguish day and night (sun or moon behind the cloud, based on Open-Meteo's is_day field) and the intensity of rain, snow and thunderstorms: the heavier, the darker and thicker the cloud. This applies to the 3 h forecast too, whose icons are chosen per hour for day or night. Mapping of the weather codes (WMO):

Weather WMO code Day Night
Clear 0
Mostly clear 1
Partly cloudy 2
Overcast 3
Fog, freezing fog 45, 48
Drizzle 51, 53
Light rain, light showers 61, 80
Rain, dense drizzle, showers 55, 63, 81
Heavy rain, violent showers 65, 82
Freezing rain or drizzle 56, 57, 66, 67
Light snow, snow grains, light showers 71, 77, 85
Snowfall 73
Heavy snow, heavy showers 75, 86
Thunderstorm (also with hail) 95, 96, 99

Data sources

Data Source Interval
Weather, 3 h forecast, UV, sun Open-Meteo (forecast) 15 min
Pollen, ozone, PM10, PM2.5, EU AQI Open-Meteo Air Quality (one shared request) 15 min
Coordinates for the city Open-Meteo Geocoding (once per location, then stored in flash) –
Time NTP (Europe/Berlin time zone) at start

All data is free and needs no API key.

Region: weather and air quality are available worldwide. Open-Meteo only provides pollen data for Europe and only during the pollen season; elsewhere the pollen screen shows "Keine" (none).
