WetterCube/Inbetriebnahme/en

Aus WetterCube Wiki
Dies ist die englische Fassung. Zur deutschen Fassung

1. Install the firmware

Option A: Web installer (recommended, no development environment needed)

  1. Open the web installer (Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge only, because of WebSerial).
  2. Connect the board via USB-C, choose "Install" and follow the instructions.
  3. Careful: the installation erases the flash, including the Wi-Fi password, location and settings. Afterwards the cube has to be set up again (step 2).

Option B: Arduino IDE – see Development. After that, everything else works through updates over Wi-Fi (no more USB needed).

2. First setup

  1. On first start (or if the Wi-Fi is unreachable) the display shows "Portal: WetterCube-Setup". The cube now opens its own Wi-Fi "WetterCube-Setup" (no password).
  2. On your phone (or PC) open the Wi-Fi settings, look for "WetterCube-Setup" in the list of available networks and connect to it. If the phone says that the network has no internet access, stay connected anyway.
  3. The browser now opens the cube's setup portal by itself (on iOS and Android usually automatically). If that does not happen, open http://192.168.4.1 in the browser.
  4. There, choose your home Wi-Fi from the list and enter the password.
  5. Enter your location (city) without umlauts (Munchen, Koln, Dusseldorf).
  6. "Speichern & Verbinden" (save and connect). The cube restarts, connects to your home Wi-Fi and loads the data. Afterwards connect your phone to your normal Wi-Fi again (this usually happens by itself).

After connecting, the boot screen shows the IP address for 5 seconds. Afterwards the cube is also reachable at http://wettercube.local. This works out of the box on Windows 11, macOS, iOS and Android; older Windows versions need Bonjour.

If the Wi-Fi connection fails at startup

At startup the cube waits up to 15 seconds for the Wi-Fi. If that fails it opens the setup portal again. The portal stays open for 3 minutes, after which the cube restarts and tries again. The saved credentials are kept, and the portal has the previous Wi-Fi and location preselected.

A later Wi-Fi change (new router, new password) works without the portal through the web interface as long as the cube is still on the old network (see Settings).
